The Henna tree, Lawsonia inermis is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, southern Asia and northern Australasia. For centuries people have ground the foliage of the plant into a powder in order to dye cloth and skin. The greenish powder when mixed with water and or an acidic liquid makes a temporary red, brown or orange stain. Henna stain is entirely temporary and can lasts up to six weeks.
