The Henna tree, Lawsonia inermis, is native to tropical so too subtropical regions of Africa, southern Asia, also northern Australasia. People grind the foliage of this plant into a powder. When mixed with water, the Henna paste functions as a dye for cloth and skin.
Mix the powder with water to produce a paste. Apply this paste to the skin to obtain a temporary red, brown or orange colored-stain. The stain is temporary and can last up to six weeks.
